I can't believe I haven't posted for 4 months! I even had to go to Sarah's Blog to get to my own as my computer has a new hardrive { I dropped my lap-top!} and my blog site wasn't in my favourites bar! Also my camera wasn't working....Now it is, after a bit of fiddling, and I found some pictures on the sim card for show and tell. These taken at the Stitches n Chat Craft show in Rockhampton. That's daughter-in-law Kate in charge of my stall. See the quilt in the left hand corner? It's from the pattern 'Inspiration Point' Using the Moda Nostalgia Collection. My Friend Kim made that, and she is new to quilting! What a lovely job she did! The other photos are of a local dance school group. Aren't they cute in their chicken outfits? I can't remember what song they danced to, but the little girl on the right, she was dancing to her own tune anyway. She was the STAR!

Just remembered it's the last day of the month! I did manage a couple of finishes. I am going to the Rockhampton Stitches & Craft Market on the May 29th weekend with a stall and I have made a couple of samples.....more to go!. I love the pattern "Point Taken" a simple table runner that only takes one charm pack! Made this one in the New "Grace" fabrics. Also made a Lumiere De Noel Runner using a pattern I bought from the Hervey Bay shop -Dew Drop Inn. Love the birds in this French General range! and the pattern is great! And lastly, with the lovely blues from the Metropolis range of fabric by Marcus Bros, I did the Layer Cake Runner from the book "My Red Sofa" At the market they will be having lots of raffles over the 2 days so stall holders are encouraged to donate items. I am hoping to finish at least one quilt for a raffle and I might donate one or two of these yet. All raffle proceeds are to go to the Theodore school! We all know how badly they were affected by the floods, so it feels great to know all money will be put to such a good cause. If anyone would like to donate anything for the raffles just contact me and I would be more than happy to take it with me to Rockhampton and donate it on your behalf. thanks, Gail

I do have a finish! My Icy Blue is done at last! I quilted this on Sarah's machine at christmas, so I am thrilled to say squared up, binded and done! It was a Moda Bakeshop pattern, Verna' Flower Garden. A couple of tweeks on mine as I didn't have the proper pre-cuts.

Wadding Pindots!

Hi, I have a problem with the backing on a quilt. A lady at a local sewing shop recommended the size 11 needle for my stippling, so I gave it a try. Half way through the quilting I noticed the tiny white pindots on the back. My cotton, [top and bottom] is black so I was a bit stumped when I saw the white! It seems the needle was too fine, and it pierced the fabrics and pulled the wadding right through to the back! I am trying to finish the binding so that I can give it a wash, hoping that might fix the problem. If anyone has had this happen to them, can you let me know if it is fixable? It's a 50th birthday present and I do want it to look good. My last resort will be to take binding off and turn it into a quillo. thanks, Gail

We have a new convert to this Quilting Life! My friend Kim had shown an interest in having a go, so on thursday night we had a sewing marathon. We finished at 2.30 in the morning and by then, Kim had a lovely Table-Runner called *Simply Charming* made from the Beautiful Lilac Hill Fabrics. { there was also a couple of the muffins missing!} A few of days later I made another from the same pattern with an Inkwell charm pack that I had. The Black & White colours go so well with my black couch.

I HAVE!!.....

I have about 10 days to finish all my xmas sewing! But.. what have I been doing? Finishing my own projects, starting other quilts! I do have an excuse for the Waters Edge Quilt. It was already on my Quilting frame, and I had to quilt it quickly so that I could load on my grandaughter's Hunky Dory Quilt. The other one, well, what can I say? No excuses! My fault entirely! I fell in love with the pattern in a magazine and it so happens that I had the Sophia fabric featured, so I figured it was meant to be! I think I will take it to Tassie with me at xmas and maybe Sarah can help me quilt it. I think even George is even shaking his head at me!...

It wasn't very expensive, on sale at Shabby Fabrics, and I love all the quilts!

There are patterns for eight quilts and pillows for each and I have already made a good start on purchasing the fabrics for ALL of them!!.....I will challenge myself to make them all!....

Finaly a finish!.... A big cushion!....I saw this design in a craft shop in Tassie [can't remember the name of the shop!] and I loved what they had done with the pillow. I bought 3 x 1/2 yds of the Fabric, [can you believe not one piece had a collection name on it! ] and with Sarah's and Vicky's direction I strip sewed the 3 fabrics, cut them into blocks, and with a sneaky photo from Kate, my direction was set! George likes it too! ...He is going to vet surgery early in the morning for needle, pills, nail clip and long overdue hair cut!

A blog post at last! This is for Marise from Utah! ...Hi Marise!....

I made the Irish Chain quilt from the moda bakeshop pattern, and instead of using 1 1/2" strips I used 2 1/2" jelly roll strip to make it larger. I used repoduction fabrics, the Civil War Crossing collection from Moda and a few others from scraps that I had. Looking at it now, I think it needs another final border to make it even bigger! It's currently 6 1/2 foot square, about 80". Hope that helps Marise!

A SUPER DAY!

Arrived back from Tassie yesterday after a 5 day stay. My lovely mother-in-law passed away and the family got together for a lovely goodbye. A sad time was lightened by Sarah and Rosanne on Sunday when they took Kate and I out to lunch with their swap girls Vicki and Christine. On the way to the Cherry Shed for lunch we stopped at the chocolate factory where Rosanne tried to take us home on the train, she needs more lessons! Lunch was delicious, I was suprised Rosanne stuck to cordial, I had heard rumours! ... We also called in to the cheese place where we stocked up on honey and marinated fetta! Yumm! But Again Rosanne was being difficult! She tried to chat up an old cow! Is her age starting to show??? Thanks Sarah and Rosanne for a lovely day, and it was a delight to meet Vicki and Christine, true ladies compared to us Georgetown girls! Ha....

His first time with a young male apprentice and he was not very impressed when the boy finished, then held the mirror up so he could view the back! Was he really oblivious to his bald spot! ...MEN!

Simon and Kate arrived with a Darell Lea Mother's day bag full of goodies,a gorgeous Ellie Elephant and Kate had made me a Sewing Machine mat in Mill House Inn from Moda to match my cover made by Sarah for xmas. Kate also arrived with two big parcels under her arm, they turned out to be lovely pillows from Sarah. She had made them with the panel from Northern Solitude also from Moda, and I know she has already shown you photos, but they look so gorgeous with the pillow inside them! Thank you girls! XXX

New U.F.O And A New Start!

Hi, I have a first ufo for 2010. My Eva top is finished. ta da!! Been looking for a suitable backing and can't find anything I like. Might have to weaken and just us a Eva layer cake, and I do have 1 yd of the green and pink scrolls that I could use as well. The other photo is another project I have started. The pattern is Cross Ties Throw from the book Jelly Roll Quilts by Kathy Brown. I am using Old Primrose Inn by Blackbird designs, so lovely this fabric! 10 blocks done, 1o to go. A few bits of jelly strips leftover, I might try scrappy blocks, or keep for piano key border. Then I will have to put it away until border fabrics arrive, bummer! I might have to start something else while I wait! NOOO, Kate is coming this afternoon and she is going to crack the whip while I put a ufo on my frame to be quilted this weekend. While The Cat's Away....!

My husband flew to Tassie today, a short visit to check in on his mum. He will be staying with number one daughter, Sarah, who I know will look after him. On the way home from the Rockhampton airport I stopped at Spotlight. [ my number one son is looking after me! we were driving past and he did offer!] So these are my purchases, lovely fabrics and all on sale too! The green, I have no idea, just fell in love with those. The others are for a Trip Around The World pattern that I love from Eleanor Burns. The first 5 fabrics are for a blue and white quilt, the other 4 are for the another Trip. I am going to use the plain blue in that one too. It would be nice to have a finish for February with one of these!!

Well a whole week has flown by and still no finishes to post. I really don't know where to start! A have a couple of quilts that just need binding, but that feels like cheating!... The Go Cart

I keep calling it a Go Cart, I don't know why, but I do,and this is the new addition to the family. When my husband took up golf it was for exercise and because he needed a hobby. But one year down the road he suffered pain in the knee, and officialy has gout/arthritis. He hinted, then pleaded and finaly begged for a golf cat,that was fun!, He now has one, and wouldn't you know it, the doctor has changed his meds and the pain is easing considerably! Anyone want to buy a used Go Cart! It comes with a used husband with a dicky knee!!

This is a FINISHED project! Yippee! A tabletopper using the *Cider Mill Road* charms and the *HouseBoat* pattern from Miss Rosie Quilt Company, love her designs! Of course I made it a little bit bigger than the pattern, had to tweak the measurements a bit, but all ok in the end.

My Nostalgia quilt top is finished. I used the *Strips'N'Bits* pattern from Bloom Creek. I used a Jelly Roll and Two Charm Packs, I kept making the blocks until I ran out of material, so mine is a lot bigger than the pattern.It's also a bit lumpy and bumpy, I didn't notice the proper pressing instructions until I had nearly finished! It may be another project for Sarah when she comes for a visit in September!

This is my latest muck up! I made a baby quilt for a new grandbaby for a lady at work...All through the pregnancy it was Cody John, I say again C.O.D.Y. When he was born I double checked.....C.O.D.Y. Correct. I went ahead and finished the lovely Winsome Quilt . Leonie was happy when I pesented her the finished item. Two hours later she approached me to whisper,Cody with a K. What is it with these young ones??? Why do they have to be creative with the spelling of A name? I have tried different ways to change the C to a K, but to me, it still looks like a C trying to be a K! Might have to wait until you get here Sarah, your talents might be handy!

Well, I keep hearing that question, and it's about time I sat down at the computer and did a little show and tell! My daughter, Sarah, has been on to me to update, not to mention Roseanne and Isabella. And there is also my cousin Andrea, in England, who we have just learnt is not only a blogger, but a quilter as well! And I must not forget Kerry, who has taken the plunge and decided to get back into the blogging world. I must say hello to Jen the Bum too. I called into the "Quilter's Shack" in Bundaberg where she works, on my way home from Brisbane just after xmas, and I met that lovely lady. It was only afterwards that Sarah pointed out that I should have taken a photo! Hindsight great! Next time! This picture is of a quilt I made at Xmas for Shane and Kisty's little girl, Ella in Tassie. I took it over uncompleted, playing crafty and hoping Sarah would help me! I had made a BIG stuff of it! It was the first time I had used the really thick wadding, and I had so much trouble. Broken needles, cotton breaks, big problems. The last straw was a broken needle and the quilt was stuck to the machine on my frame, I tried to carefully ease the quilt out, but I couldn't get it free without the scissors! Huge mistake! I had cut through the lovely purple backing fabric! After I cleaned my machine of the cotton jam, what did I see was missing? Only the steel plate that covered the feeddogs so that the machine was free to allow for quilting! After my very first cotton jam, I must have removed it and forgot to put it back! Well, I was just so frustrated! I was ready to throw it to the tip! But I packed it in my suitcase and took it on holiday. One sunny afternoon in Tassie, husband gone to play golf, I sat outside in the sunshine and unpicked the half quilted quilt for hours. I didn't know I had that much patience, but for some reason, I loved that little quilt and I was determined to finish it! Sarah, though busy as per usual, helped me pin it with new backing, and instead of quilting it again, I just tied it down. I mucked even that up! Puckkered like mad, so again my little girl came to my rescue! Sarah unpicked some of my tie downs, sewed a couple of cute buttons on two tiny cuts to the quilt top, and behold....this is my "Sweet Baby Jane" Quilt using the Jelly Sandwich pattern. Love it, never want to see the bloody thing again!

Well I will post a few items that are well and truly FINISHED, and those girls will see that I have been a busy little Dragon!........

First is "FRESH AIR"........Sarah and I saw a quilt hanging up in a craft store in Tassie [can't remember the name of the store!] The lovely lady was kind enough to copy pattern for us and I bought some Fresh Air fabrics and had a go. I wish now that I had made it bigger!

This is the new wallhanging I put up today. The fishing boat material is called seabound and I have always loved it. Sarah, my daughter, came to qld a couple of years ago and we made my son,Simon, a quillo with this fabric, with some reds and blues. It was my 1st quillo, just a stack and slash 7 fat quarter one, but it turned out great. Here in Boyne Island we have just had our annual fishing comp, The Boyne Island Hookup, the biggest fishing comp in Australia, and I thought the fishing theme quilt was fitting for the occasion. You will notice the footy had finished, and my husband helped with photo .

This is a attic window wall hanging I finaly finished last month. It has been hanging up at work and I took it down today to make way for a new one. The garden park was a panel from michael miller, and I thought the purple and lime green(looks yellow in photo] went well together. Since finishing it I have seen a kit form of this nearly exact quilt. It was in a magazine and the window was so nearly the same as mine I couldn't believe it. A lady at work wants to buy it, so I will have to come up with a fair price. So hard to do! Photos aren't real good, Had to lay it on couch because my husband was watching football and couldn't move from his armchair for 1 minute to hold it up for me to take a good shot!MEN!

Hi, Debbie wanted some info on photo quilts, so I will do my best to explain the way I do it. I upload my pictures into the computer, and in photo editor I tweek the photos to how I want them...brighter...darker.... black and white...remove red eye....my programe even has remove scratches and blemishes. In my mother in laws cushion, I did all the black and white photos in the sepia tone, it evened out all the photos because some were true black and white, some weren't. When I am happy with photos I load a sheet of photo transfer material in my inkjet printer. These sheets are fabric one side, paper the other, A4 size . Sometimes I print 4 photos on 1 sheet, sometimes 3 0r 6 smaller ones. On the printer make sure setting is best quality, and watch your images print. Some sheets require drying time, then a rinse in cold water to insure colour fastness, then lay flat to dry. They don't take long to dry, I have even ironed them to speed up the drying. The photo fabric sheets come in a 5 pack, sell for about $25.-$35. per pack and they have very easy to follow instructions on the pack [ a couple of aussie ladies sell them on ebay, and they are usualy cheaper than the craft shops] Sometimes I haven't followed a pattern to make them up, just joined squares together, sometimes it's easy to modify a pattern, replace squares with the same size in a photo block even if you have to border photo to get the size you are after. Hope this helps, and I hope you give it a go, but I warn you, as soon as people see photos in a quilt or cushion everyone wants one!! Here is a work in progress,[ NOT A GREAT PHOTO, DIDN'T HAVE GLASSES ON] a lady I work with wanted a cushion with her daughters wedding photos on it. She wanted a BIG cushion, and it will finish at the europe pillow size. I was having trouble with the wedding colours, bright pink,teal blue,black and white, then played with the moda daydreams panel and yardage and I liked the effect.I am going to quilt it today, then put the back of the pillow on, a lovely dusty pink. Ps ,Just remembered, I have never quilted over the photos, the material is a bit heavy, and the needles leave big holes. So I just do in the ditch around the edges. happy sewing.............

Been a long time since my last post and I want to thank Sarah and her lovely ladies for the gentle prod in the back ... for my return............Been busy with the quilting, but naughty for not taking picture of some of the item I gave away.Here is a wallhanging I did for my husband's birthday in march. I was just going to do it with just pictures of him in his youth, then I decided it needed a few oldies from our courting days, then I found some great photos of him as a child and his parents, then I added my favourite wedding pic and one of our 4 children together {that is a rare find} so before I knew it, the small wallhanging became a bit larger than intended. The material is yultide blessing and I love the florals, nearly matches my bikini!

The wedding one is a wallhanging I made for Lynn, my boss,[The picture is terrible] Her daughter Natasha got married this year. The chef runner, [ I don't know why I have 2 pictures] was for Carryn our cook. The pillows, another terrible shot!] were for a couple of girls at work, one is of pussy cats for helen, betty boop for chrissy,and retro crowds for hippy leonie. The last one is a attic window wallhanging with ' queen of the ranch' cowgirls for country girl julie. It is so nice to be able to make thing for others, I have so enjoyed the making and the giving of these gifts.

Hello, I have been such a good girl!! Going on holidays soon, and decided to finish up some ufo's. This is one that sat for 2 months, waiting for me to finish 12 inches of binding!! Finished at last, and I am so happy with it. I have used the April Cornell' Sonnets' collection, so I call it' April Sonnets'.It was the Triple Treat Pattern in the Happy Hour Book from Atkinson Design, nice and easy, Thanks for taking a peek.
